  2.     ***** NOTE *****
  3.     You do NOT need to perform the following steps if you chose to 
  4.     replace your existing MIDIMAP.CFG file with the new one during the 
  5.     Aria installation program.  You should perform the following
  6.     steps if you chose not to replace your existing MIDIMAP.CFG.

  8.     The following steps initialize the Windows MIDI Mapper.  The MIDI
  9.     Mapper allows the musical synthesizer functions of the Aria 
  10.     sound card to work properly when playing MIDI files.
  11.  
  12.     1. When Windows returns, activate the Control Panel by double
  13.        clicking its icon in the Main group.  Activate the MIDI Mapper 
  14.        applet by double clicking on it.
  15.  
  16.     2. If you see Aria [Extended] in the name drop down list box, you 
  17.        do not need to manually configure the MIDI mapper and you may 
  18.        stop now.  If you do not see Aria [Extended] in the Name drop
  19.        down box, press the "New" button.

  21.     3. Enter Aria [Extended] in the name box and a brief description.

  24.     4. The MIDI Setup screen displays the current MIDI mappings for 
  25.        your computer.  Channel 1 through 10 should have "Aria 
  26.        Synthesizer" selected for Port Name and be active.  A
  27.        channel is active when the check box at the right end of the 
  28.        row is checked.  Set channels 11 through 16 to be mapped to 
  29.        "NONE".  The source (SRC) channel and destination (DEST) channel 
  30.        numbers should be the same.

  32.     5. When the port mappings are set, press the OK button.

  34.     6. The MIDI Mapper setup will prompt you whether you wish to save 
  35.        the new definition.  Click "Yes".

  37.     7. At the MIDI Mapper window, press the "Close" button.

  39.     Your system is now configured as an extended level synthesizer and
  40.     is ready to play MIDI files using Microsoft Media Player or other 
  41.     applications that make use of synthesized music.

  43.     If you wish to configure the Aria sound card as a base-level 
  44.     synthesizer or would like more details on the differences between 
  45.     base and extended level synthesizers, please refer to the Aria 
  46.     sound card manual.
